Surat District Panchayat is an institution of local self government of Surat District. Under the purview of Surat Jilla Panchayat the administration of Surat Jilla Panchayat, Taluka Panchayats of 9 Talukas and 567 rural panchayats is systematically and decently handled a noble example of three – tier panchayat system. Surat Jilla Panchayat was honoured with best Jilla Panchayat award for 1985– 86 for its best performance from all India Panchayat Parishad by the then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. Surat District development officer has received best District Development Officer award for the year 2006.
